Ratchets Design Performance Objectives

DESIGN PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES:
Develop a ratchet that has a smooth ratchet mechanism with a positive detent directional control ring
Develop a unit that can withstand 200 lb-in torque for a minimum of 500 cycles

DESIGN OBJECTIVES TO MEET PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES:
Ratchets to be cycle tested for 500 cycles minimum at a 200 lb-in minimum torque load with no failure
Ratchet directional control ring shall remain in detent position for all testing without self reversing
Ratchets to withstand 100 lbs of side loading without affecting function

SUMMARY OF RESULTS:
Testing was performed using T-handle ratchets and a CDI torque tester and subjecting ratchets to a minimum of 200 lb-in for 800 cycles with no failure. Side loading of 100 pounds of force was performed with no failures due to bearing supported mechanism. The directional control ring met all requirements with no failure of the detent mechanism.

No controlled autoclave testing has been performed to date. A review of returns shows no failures of the mechanism due to in-use autoclaving by any of the units purchased and placed into service by Bradshaw customers.
